Tree Service Tampa Bay Homeowners Can Reach With One Free Call

Removal, trimming, storm cleanup, stumps and palms in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties. Call any hour, describe the tree, and the call is transferred to an independent, locally owned tree service company that works near you.

A phone line, not a tree company

Type "tree service Tampa" into a search bar and you get a wall of ads, directories and numbers that may not serve your street. This site exists to shorten that to one call.

Tree Service Tampa FL is a free phone line. It has no trucks, no climbers and no price list. When you call (689) 407-5379, an automated assistant picks up, asks what kind of tree work you need, and takes your name, a callback number, your city or ZIP and a short description of what the tree is doing. Then it transfers you to an independent, locally owned tree service company that works in your part of Hillsborough, Pasco or Pinellas County.

That company hears a quick summary before it answers, so you are not starting from zero. From there the arrangement is between you and the company: it comes out, looks at the tree, quotes its own price, and if you agree, does the job and bills you. The line never charges you. Companies may pay it a referral fee.

The jobs people call about

Most calls are about taking a tree down or cutting one back, and stumps, palms and overgrown lots come next. Each service page explains what that job involves around Tampa Bay and what to ask before anyone starts.

More tree jobs the line takes calls for

Not every job fits neatly under one heading. The line takes calls for all of these, and the company you are connected with decides whether it handles that kind of work and what it charges. The services page describes each one in more detail.

  • Storm cleanup. A limb on the roof, a trunk across the driveway, or a yard full of broken branches after a summer squall or a tropical storm.
  • Stump grinding. Grinding down what is left after a removal, which many companies price separately from taking the tree down.
  • Palm trimming. Taking off dead fronds and seed stalks. UF/IFAS advises removing only fronds that are fully brown and leaving the green ones, because heavily stripped "hurricane cut" palms were more likely to lose their crowns in later storms.
  • Debris hauling. Getting logs and brush off the property. The City of Tampa expects landscaping companies to dispose of the waste they create at a home rather than leave it for curbside pickup.

What Tampa Bay weather does to trees

Three things shape most tree work here: a long hurricane season, a mix of strong and weak species, and power lines that run through mature canopy.

  • June 1 to November 30The Atlantic hurricane season, with the climatological peak around September 10, according to NOAA.
  • About 70 percentShare of Tampa Electric customers who lost power at Hurricane Milton's peak in October 2024, mostly from uprooted trees and debris bringing down lines and poles, the utility reported.
  • Live oak vs. laurel oakUF/IFAS hurricane surveys found live oak and sand live oak among the most wind resistant trees, and laurel oak among the least.

Milton, and what it taught about yard trees

Hurricane Milton made landfall south of Tampa Bay on the evening of October 9, 2024 as a Category 3 storm with maximum winds of 115 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center's figures as reported by Bay News 9. Hurricane conditions still reached the coast from Clearwater Beach and Tampa southward. For many households the lasting damage was trees: Tampa Electric said nearly 600,000 of its customers were without power at the peak, and that uprooted trees and storm debris knocking down lines and poles caused most of it.

Not every tree fails the same way. UF/IFAS research after several Florida hurricanes found that live oaks, sand live oaks and southern magnolias held up well, as did sabal palms, Florida's state tree. Laurel oaks ranked with the weaker species, and UF/IFAS notes they tend to develop internal decay as they age. That is a big part of why a calm day in spring is a better time to have an older oak looked at than the week a storm is in the forecast.

Power lines and street trees have their own owners

Tampa Electric trims trees near the lines that run from pole to pole, but the service drop from the pole to your house is the property owner's job. The utility will disconnect that line by appointment so a tree company can work safely; it asks for two weeks' notice at 813-635-1500. Trees in the City of Tampa right of way are the city's, and for a street tree blocking a road or sidewalk the city lists 813-274-5744. The who pays guide sorts out the rest.

If a tree has brought down a line, stay far away, assume the wire is live, and call 911. Then call your electric company. Tampa Electric's outage line is 877-588-1010.

How to choose a tree removal company in Tampa

Searches for "best tree service Tampa" or "tree removal companies in Tampa" turn up long lists, and nobody can honestly tell you which one is best. This line does not rank, review or vouch for companies. What protects you is checking the specific company that comes to look at your tree, before anyone starts cutting.

  1. Get the paperworkAsk for a certificate of general liability insurance sent by the company's insurance agent, and proof of workers' compensation coverage or a state exemption.
  2. Find out who makes the call on the treeFor health or risk questions, ask for the name and ISA certification number of the arborist and look it up yourself.
  3. Ask about the permitRemovals inside Tampa city limits usually need a city permit. Ask whether the company will apply, or whether you will.
  4. Read the quote line by lineIt should say what happens to the wood, the brush and the stump, and when the work will happen. Compare quotes that describe the same job.

Check the company yourself. Florida has no statewide license for tree trimming or tree removal, so a truck and a business card prove very little. Ask the company for a certificate of general liability insurance sent by its insurance agent, proof of workers' compensation coverage, and the ISA certification number of its arborist. A company that sprays or treats trees for hire needs a pesticide license from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. You can confirm an ISA certification with the ISA's credential lookup (opens in a new tab).

Where the line takes calls

Calls come from across the three counties around the bay: Hillsborough, which includes Tampa, Temple Terrace and Plant City; Pasco to the north; and Pinellas across the water. When you call, give the assistant your city or ZIP so the call reaches a company that works there. The Tampa page covers the city in depth, and the service areas page shows which utility and which tree rules apply where.

How this line works: Tree Service Tampa FL is a free phone line, not a tree service company. It does not trim, remove, quote or schedule tree work and holds no license or arborist certification. Calls are transferred to independent, locally owned tree service companies in the Tampa Bay area. Those companies may pay Tree Service Tampa FL a referral fee. You never pay the line. How it works.

Common questions

Is there a tree service near Tampa FL that answers at night?

This line does. An automated assistant answers every call, any hour, including weekends and holidays. It takes your details and transfers you to an independent, locally owned tree service company that works in your part of Tampa Bay. If that company cannot pick up right then, it gets your details to call you back. If a tree has brought down a power line or someone is hurt, call 911 first.

Who does the tree work when I call this number?

An independent tree service company, not this line. Tree Service Tampa FL is a free phone line: it does not trim, remove, quote or schedule anything. The company you are put through to looks at the tree, sets its own price, does the work and is paid by you. The how it works page walks through a call step by step.

How do I find the best tree service in Tampa?

No one can honestly hand you "the best" company, and this line does not rank them. What you can do is check the company in front of you. Florida has no statewide license for tree trimming or removal, so ask for a certificate of general liability insurance from the company's agent, proof of workers' compensation coverage, and the ISA number of its certified arborist, which you can confirm on the ISA's online lookup. Then compare written quotes for the same work.

Do tree removal companies in Tampa need a permit to take down my tree?

Inside Tampa city limits, the city says removing a tree 5 inches or more in trunk diameter at 4.5 feet above the ground needs a permit, invasive species excepted. Florida law also lets the owner of a single-family home skip local permits when an ISA certified arborist or a Florida licensed landscape architect documents that the tree poses an unacceptable risk. Rules differ in the counties and other cities, so read the Tampa tree removal permit guide.

Does it cost anything to call?

No. The call and the transfer are free, and the line never bills you. Any price comes from the tree company, and you should have it in writing before work starts. The companies may pay the line a referral fee, which is how the call stays free for you.
